Why is it important?
Piezoelectric coefficients are non as well know as people think. This is a significant step forward in understanding that when greatly deformed the simple picture is no longer valid.
Perspectives
Second order piezoelectric coefficients can be exploited to make piezoelectric nanowires more responsive to strain.
