What is it about?

This paper considers the degradation behaviour of AZ31 magnesium alloy at up to 9 months in physiological solution which was changed every 2-5 days to ensure the degradation environment is nearly constant. Many studies have looked at the of Mg alloys, but generally for times less than a month. Here we show that the degradation rate peaks after 2-3 weeks and then drops to a long term stable rate.

Why is it important?

Anyone thinking about long term implantation of AZ31 Mg alloy needs to consider the long term behaviour.
