What is it about?
In this paper we analyze through 17 years of the newspaper Lloyds List to map the discourse on eco-certification schemes in the shipping industry. Our results indicate that the eco-certification environmental management tool has not permeated through the shipping industry and has hitherto not considerable effect on the greening of shipping.

Our results contribute to the debates on how to combine regulations with voluntary schemes, like eco-rating tools. Specially globalized industries, as shipping have a challenge to do so.
