What is it about?

In this paper we show that lentiviral pseudotypes of influenza, rabies and Marburg virus can be freeze dried with minimal loss of activity upon reconstitution.

Why is it important?

This study is significant as it means that pseudotype viruses can be shipped and deployed at low cost to many laboratories around the world. Using this system it is now possible to undertake serology with pseudotype viruses in laboratories that do not have access to -80 freezers or dry ice.

Perspectives

This is a key study as it opens the door to being able to deploy "pseudotype kits' within field studies in outbreak areas.
