What is it about?
We evaluated the safety and efficacy of sildenafil citrate for treating erectile dysfunction in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Why is it important?
It has been reported reported that 73.1% of subjects affected by all types of MS have some type of sexual dysfunction. The reported rate of erectile dysfunction in patients with MS is 53.2%. The exact etiology of MS emergent ED is still a matter of debate, and is related to neurological dysfunction, psychological factors and side effects of medication or generalized MS symptoms
Perspectives
Treatment of MS emergent ED with sildenafil did not produce significant improvements compared with placebo. Appropriate treatment modalities have yet to be established for the considerable number of patients in whom sildenafil fails.
