What is it about?

We report overall and periodic analyses (1992–1999, 2000–2010, 2011–2016) in respect to the following themes: (1) contexts and participants, (2) research foci and theoretical orientations, and (3) research methodology and data sources.

Why is it important?

There are a few comprehensive reviews of the published empirical articles in the area of second language writing. This review and analysis is, therefore, a major contribution to the field because it reports the current contexts, participants, research foci and theoretical orientations as well as the methodological orientation of second language writing research. It gives L2 writing researchers hints and directions for future research in this area.

Perspectives

I think comprehensive analysis and reviews of the published articles in a field like the current one can help both early career, as well as experienced researchers, see how their field has developed over time. It gives everyone a historical and narrative overview of the field of second language writing.
