What is it about?
Tongue-tie is a very common problem caused by the inability to freely move the tongue due to short lingual frenum. Tongue-tie, also known as ankyloglossia is causes problems with speech, mastication, swallowing, lactation, plaque control. Correction of ankyloglossia or tongue ties is by removing the high frenum attachment. The process of removing the frenum is called as a frenectomy. A lingual frenectomy is process of removing lingual frenum. Since lingual frenum is near many anatomical structures, it is important for clinicians, surgeons, and periodontists should be aware of problems associated with lingual frenectomy and how to manage in case there is any complication associated with it. The article provides a list of possible etiology and plausible management of complications that could occur during and after the process of a lingual frenectomy.

It is important for surgeons, periodontitis and general dentists to be aware of the plausible complications associated with lingual frenectomy. It would not help them to prevent and avoid such complications but also cue them to take appropriate steps to manage such complications
