What is it about?
Commercial magneto-optic materials for sensing are expensive and difficult to obtain. Besides, their relevant properties are limited. We here report on a composite material that consists in a cheap silica matrix with magnetic nanoparticles inside. In this way, the properties can be tuned by just adjusting the amount of nanoparticles. These materials are inexpensive in comparison to the commercial monocrystals.
