What is it about?
Mullite ceramics containing a nominally 5 wt.% yttria dopant were sintered in the range 1300-1550 degC using nanocomposite powders which consisted of a Y2O3–SiO2 core coated with pseudoboehmite [AlO(OH)] prepared from an aluminium sulphate solution. The paper discusses the reactions occuring and liquid-liquid phase separation during cooling.
