What is it about?

The study will guide the reader where to place electrodes on the thigh to get an effective electrical stimulation of the thigh muscles. There are special points on a muscle, which are much more effective for electrical stimulation that are called "motor points". These points coincide with the location of motor nerve fibers. The location of motor nerve fibers as well as the location of motor points for electrical stimulation is very individual.

Why is it important?

Electrical stimulation on the thigh can help to grow muscles. However, applying electrical stimulation on the wrong points can be ineffective and painful. Therefore, it is crucial where to apply electrodes to get an effective and comfortable stimulation.

Perspectives

Currently, a manual search for so called "motor points" should be performed before applying electrical stimulation. However, this is seldom done. This is one of the reasons why electrical stimulation is not used more frequently. In the future search for "motor points" could be performed by automatic algorithms, which will make the treatment more effective and more comfortable, and thus more frequently used.
