What is it about?
Cataract surgery is the most common ophthalmic surgery in the world. For best results, a good tear film is necessary both pre and post operatively. We review the steps that doctors can use to assess and treat the tear film in order to ensure good post operative outcomes.

Why is it important?
Poor tear film preoperatively results in inaccurate biometry, so that the incorrect intraocular lens may be inserted during surgery. When the tear film is disturbed, patient's vision is not satisfactory postoperatively, even if the surgery is technically successful. This results in poor patient satisfaction.
