What is it about?
Decreasing the particle size to the nanoscale can have important benefits for the catalytic performance of a material. Here, we prepared nanoparticles of a catalyst with parallel porous channels. The catalytic active sites in this material are highly accessible and the material displays improved activity in the conversion of dihydroxyacetone to lactate. This reaction is important because it converts a renewable source as dihydroxyacetone to a buliding block for biodegradable polymers.
