What is it about?

This study tells how duplex type structure can be generated from copper complexes having ligandes derived from naphthalimide tethered to dicarbboxylic acid. The duplex type structure is guided by interplay of weak interactions. Pi-stacking effect and aquation of the metal ions play a crucial role of the metal complexes. The magnetic properties of the copper complex having duplex type structure has been depicted.

Why is it important?

Duplex structures are biologically important, generation of such structures in dicarboxylate complexes with fluorescent and magnetically active component attached has definite interest.

Perspectives

This will provide a background to develop duplex type structures eventually to be used in various applications such as molecular, ion recognition, optical, magnetic materials and as selective carrier.
