What is it about?

This publication discusses how to responsibly dispose of and make use of organic waste materials like sewage sludge, municipal solid waste, and construction waste. The focus is on using a process called gasification to convert the waste into valuable chemicals and green energy. Gasification is found to be efficient, economically viable, and more environmentally friendly than other methods like landfilling or incineration. The publication offers insights and assessments that can guide efforts to reduce waste and produce clean energy.

Why is it important?

This work is timely and unique because it addresses the growing problem of enormous waste generated by urbanization and offers a potential solution by introducing the gasification process. The environmentally friendly aspect of gasification compared to other waste management methods, as well as the potential for profitable by-products, could lead to significant improvements in waste management and energy production. This information is especially relevant as policy makers and industry leaders become increasingly concerned with reducing environmental harms and transitioning to clean energy. Hence, our publication could well inform the development of new policies and encourage further research in this area.
