What is it about?
It was shown that hydrogen embrittlement (HE) of steel pipelines in contact with the hydrogen environment, together with the transient gas flow and significantly increased transient pressure values, also increases the probability of failure of a cracked pipeline.

Why is it important?
In this study, the synergistic effects of HE and transient gas flow conditions of the hydrogen-natural gas mixture on the integrity assessment of a precracked steel pipeline were analyzed. The Failure Assessment Diagram (FAD) is used for the safety factor calculation, in order to assess the structural integrity of pipelines.
