What is it about?

The fact that many hotels are part of a brand (chain) and sometimes managed by someone else then the owner, does that impact positively or negatively on sustainability initiatives?

Why is it important?

To our knowledge, research on hotels and their sustainability efforts largely overlooked the owner-operator split. Owners, operators/managers and brands all have different interests and agendas, and ignoring this prevents us from really understanding any (lack of) sustainability drive in hotels.

Perspectives

Just as it was inspiring for the three authors, each from a different academic background, to come together to write this paper, I hope hotel owners, operators and brands will work together to make sustainability work.
