What is it about?
This study compared the memories and recall of intensive care unit survivors and looked at the subsequent specialized weaning center admissions. It also characterized the health-related quality of life and psychological morbidity of survivors and examined the relationship between delusional memories and psychological outcomes. The study was conducted using validated questionnaires in order to assess the memories of survivors.

Why is it important?
Our findings showed that anxiety disorders and delusional memories were common in survivors of prolonged mechanical ventilation. Not only, but our findings are also important as we can better assess and find interventions to relieve anxiety during and after hospitalization for patients who experience protracted weaning. We also found that recall of delusional memories in both ICU and PWC suggests that patients experience delirium which may have an effect on delusional memories, thus delirium prevention strategies should be endorsed.
