What is it about?

This work describes how the concurrent crises of science (reproducibility), technology (who controls what) and policy (is democracy endangered) are entangled with one another, and how an expanding and accelerating media system accelerates this entanglement. We argue that this crisis is linked to our addiction to technology and communication.

Why is it important?

The relation between science and technoscience is where the analysis should start. Science’s epistemic authority is simultaneously challenged and brought to bear of topics where it deeply interacts with technology and society, as we show by taking the vaccine controversy as a test case.

Perspectives

The official narrative of progress and techno-optimism is still prevalent in society. Without a robust element of critique this narrative might blind us against oncoming dystopias.
