What is it about?

We assessed shrew response to coarse woody debris manipulations in managed upland loblolly pine stands in South Carolina. Overall, the coarse woody debris addition treatments failed to elicit the positive shrew response we had expected.

Why is it important?

Lack of a positive response by shrew populations to our downed treatments may be attributable to the early coarse woody debris decay stage within these plots or an indication that within fire-adapted pine-dominated systems of the Southeast, reliance on coarse woody debris is less than in other forest types.
