What is it about?
Valuable proteins can be produced in genetically modified bacteria. We show that deletion of the pgi gene in the bacteria Escherichia coli favours the production of the pharmaceutically important protein interferon gamma.

Why is it important?
The improvement of yields of recombinant proteins produced in genetically modified bacteria will contribute to lower costs, making valuable protein pharmaceuticals like interferon gamma more affordable to the general public.
