What is it about?
Its a full length research article that reports fabrication & testing of smart hydrogel for controlled drug release applications. It is capable of delivering chlorhexidine gluconate at the rate of 60 ng/sec as the pH milieu turns alkaline. Persistent alkaline pH is an indicator of bacterial infection in chronic wounds. The hydrogel is composed of a blend of chitosan and gelatin polymers which are known for their tissue regenerative properties.

Why is it important?
It is relevant to the clinicians and bio-material scientists who are working on smart hydrogels that exhibit on-demand drug release properties for burn care or in general for any kind of acute or chronic wounds.
