What is it about?
The first survey of shallow-water foraminifera from the Selvagens Islands, an isolated archipelago located in the subtropical Northeast Atlantic. The paper discusses biogeographic affinities to selected relevant locations and examine the role of some ecologically relevant features related to community structure, biogeography, and dispersal mechanisms.

Why is it important?
By studying current foraminiferal spatial patterns of isolated, remote, and “pristine” locations, we can uncover some of the major environmental variables controlling modern foraminifera biogeographic distribution and highlight their link to dispersal mechanisms and to the importance of habitat conservation.
