What is it about?

It this study enrolling patients with bacterial sepsis and viral infections, diagnostic use of serum calprotectin and calgranulin C were evaluated together with routine biomarkers. Both proteins were found to be good predictors of bacterial etiology of infection, whereas neutrophil-to-lymphocyte count ratio (NLCR) was the best parameter for evaluation of the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy.

Why is it important?

The findings are of clinical significance, because calprotectin assay is now available for routine use and NLCR can be easily obtained from hemocytometer.

Perspectives

Writing the article was pleasure, because the results were straight forward.
