What is it about?
A methodology is proposed to determine the elastic, piezoelectric and dielectric effective properties of d31 piezoelectric macro-fibre composites based on the corresponding properties of its constituents. Predicted effective properties are compared to those available from the manufacturer. Then, the methodology is used to predict the electric field dependence of the effective properties.

Why is it important?
The study is important because limited amount of data is available or is easily obtained from experimental tests, either from the manufacturer or in laboratory conditions. Thus, a predictive model of the effective properties is very useful for analysis and design of smart structures in which these transducers are used.
