What is it about?

For Nigeria to be actively involved in the race for decarbonization, the nation's engineers must be well-knowledgeable in all areas of alternative energy generation, distribution, utilisation and storage. This research utilizes questionnaire survey to explore the knowledge-level of renewable energy among undergraduate engineering students in Nigeria.

Why is it important?

Findings from this study show that renewable energy is a not a well-understood concept among engineering students in Nigeria. Findings also show that the Nigerian undergraduate curricula for engineering programs do not cover themes of renewable energy. For Nigeria to become a key player in the race for decarbonization, these issues must be adequately addressed.

Perspectives

As one concerned about the state of energy and education in Nigeria, writing this paper was an interesting experience for me and I am delighted that I was able to utilize this piece to express my opinion on the role of education in fostering sustainable energy development in Nigeria.
