What is it about?
Many types of bacteria and fungi attack plants, causing stress and significant crop losses worldwide. Therefore, finding genes that provide broad disease resistance and understanding how they work is crucial for plant breeding. We identified a new gene that helps rice fight against fungal and bacterial diseases and showed how it works.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that the transcription factor OsWRKY65 increases rice immune responses to both bakanae and bacterial blight diseases via regulating various gene expressions.
