What is it about?
Normally, infrared spectroscopy (a technique that allows identification of chemicals), only allows you to identify "what" is present... not "how much" is present. By combining the technique with other techniques, it is possible to determine "what" is present AND "how much" is present. This article provides a review of people attempting to do this for chemicals located on surfaces.

Why is it important?
This work is important because it allows other researchers to appreciate where this relatively niche area of research is currently at in terms of development. It summarises efforts by leaders in this area, collates datasets of useful information and discusses the latest investigations related to important chemical industry processes.
