What is it about?
Iron aluminides are alloys of iron and aluminum which present improved corrosion resistance and strength at temperatures up to 500°C. The present work shows that properties change with composition in unusual ways, so that proper modeling is necessary to correctly predict these changes.

Why is it important?
Producing new materials which are able to work in higher temperatures with improved properties is a constant activity in materials research, iron aluminides do not excel in very high temperatures, but they have potential for application in moderate temperatures, e.g. inside automobile motors. Understanding how properties change with composition and how we can model these changes s essential for the development of these materials.
