What is it about?

Patients on antipsychotic drugs sometimes can have bad side effects especially if they accidently overdose. Here we show that some types of these drugs at high doses impair the function of the barrier that controls the transport of subtances between the blood and the brain. This may then cause changes in how the brain works and undesired side efects.

Why is it important?

We show why and how an overdose or inappropriate use, of certain types of antipsychotics may be bad for brain function, our evidence will hopefully lead to an improved regulations governing their usage.

Perspectives

I hope this article will encourage debate on the how certain drugs may bring about unwanted side effects and catalyse changes in how we think about and use such drugs
