What is it about?
The paper is an example of comparing different ways in which a single gene can be activated. Depending on the intermediate steps, and how these are connected, this can occur fast or slow, and lead to an abundantly transcribed gene or sparsely.

Why is it important?
It is important to realize that in measuring transcription of genes, the activation pathway can determine the time course in which this occurs. Measuring gene expression at a single time point is in this respect less informative.
