What is it about?
Black peel pomegranate is one of the rarest cultivars of Punica granatum that has not been studied precisely. However, selective cytotoxicity and potent antioxidant activity of the fruit peel extract have already been revealed. This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of the extract, and silver nanoparticles synthesized by the extract, against gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains.

Why is it important?
•Black peel pomegranate (P. granatum L.) is an anthocyanin-rich pomegranate cultivar. •The aquatic extract of the peel of the fruit shows a potent bacteriostatic activity. •The extract efficiently contributes to the synthesis of high-quality silver nanoparticles that possess enhanced-antibacterial activities. •These agents are more effective against gram-positive strains than gram-negatives.
