What is it about?
Carotid artery splitting or dissection can have a devastating effect in the form of stroke. One possible cause is an over-long styloid bone rubbing against the carotid artery. We assessed the size of the styloid process in cases of proven carotid artery dissection with those presenting without dissection and found that the length of the styloid process was not related to the development of a carotid artery dissection.
