Why is it important?

This is the first record of the genus Aschistophleps in Thailand. The publication provides rare, detailed footage of a new species of clearwing moth.

Perspectives

We believe videos of new species can add value to their morphological descriptions, often showing details not visible on dry, pinned specimens in museum collections. We managed to film the clearwing moth Aschistophleps argentifasciata in its natural habitat, both in flight and while mud-puddling, which allowed us to notice the distinct silver band on its abdomen, from which the species name has been derived.
