What is it about?
Using national hospital data for England and a survey of orthopaedic surgeons, we assessed the relation between different choices of blood clot prevention medication on post-operative complications.

Why is it important?
The newer drugs are expensive and not supported by much evidence of superiority over older ones. We found no benefit and agree that the choice should be left to the individual surgeon.
