What is it about?
More sustainable candidate aquaculture species have an agastric short intestine digestive configuration. Here we evaluate the importance of frequent feeding in the growth of these low trophic species. Fish fed more frequently grew 60% more despite consuming the same amount of balanced feed as fish fed fewer times a day.

Why is it important?
Low trophic species are required to make aquaculture a more sustainable activity, however, feeding protocols for many of these species will require a change in paradigm and technology to maximise the performance of these species in commercial farming.
