What is it about?

We succeeded (as the first academic lab) in purification of active Zika polymerase and we discovered ATP analogs that inhibit this enzyme.

Why is it important?

Our ATP analogs can be converted to prodrugs that could be directly used to combat Zika virus.

Perspectives

This was our first article about a viral polymerase. Our lab is new in this field, therefore, I am especially glad that we were the first lab to purify active Zika polymerase.
