What is it about?
Two mixtures of natural ingredients rich in bioactive phytonutrients were evaluated: a mixture of quebracho and chestnut (tannins) and a mixture of medium chain fatty acids. The study was carried out at RUSITEC (rumen simulation technique), incubating a diet formulated for dairy cows containing a high level of forage and including or not the compounds to be evaluated.

Why is it important?
1. Phytogenic components protected dietary protein similar to the formaldehyde use. 2. Medium-chain fatty acids increased the efficiency of microbial synthesis. 3. Both additives would reduce the production of methane.
