Why is it important?

Depression among women often remains unidentified in primary care since they may not proactively express depressive symptoms If health workers administer PHQ9 most of the women who have depressive disorder can be identified correctly

Perspectives

This paper is validation of PHQ9 in Malayalam the language spoken by around 30 million people in Kerala, a state in the southern part of India. Health workers who administered PHQ9 are a part of health system of India. Hence we expect it to be replicable in other parts through staff who carry out public health activities
