What is it about?

This study qualitatively evaluated the effectiveness of hospital IPC committees and concluded that weak IPC governance underpins the barriers to the effectiveness of the committees. The paper discusses how weak IPC governance is connected to the IPC constraints within Lesotho and offers possible solutions based on study findings and contemporary literature on the subject.

Why is it important?

The prevailing IPC outcomes in this study setting makes a compelling case study of the capacity of hospital IPC committees to effectively implement the core IPC components as mandated by World Health Organization.

Perspectives

Despite the existence of hospital IPC committees in this setting, the committees are largely ineffective. Training of IPC leaders in most public hospitals is imperative for positive change.
