What is it about?
Coupled numerical-experimental study on the deformation behavior of magnesium and magnesium-rare earth polycrystals.

Why is it important?
The low density of magnesium makes it a suitable structural material. Unfortunately, magnesium is brittle and, hence, ductilizing magnesium is an important task.
Perspectives
The most severe limitation of the model is its inability to predict spatially resolved twinning. Phase field methods are a promising approach to include spatially resolved twinning into a crystal plasticity framework.
