What is it about?
Academic libraries need to build a collection that meets the users needs, and is value for money. Singapore Management University's (“SMU”) Libraries use a patron-driven acquisitions process which responds to user requirements. This article investigates if the patron-driven acquisitions approach adequately meets the research needs of SMU's users. Collection usage was analysed, together with a survey to gauge user views on the collection. Findings showed that the library collection was largely able to meet users' needs. Most of the cited publications could be found in the library collection, and users were satisfied with the collection. However, there was a lack of awareness of library resources and how to use them effectively.

It demonstrates that patron driven acquisitions is a good way to meet user needs in a library, but there exist some real challenges with library users not knowing how to effectively access and use library resources.
