What is it about?
This paper uses statistical techniques to disentangle the different risks to urban cyclists, taking into account how much cycling is expected. It can therefore identify risky areas even when few accidents have already happened there (e.g. because cyclist avoid them).

Why is it important?
This paper demonstrates that contra-flow cycling (i.e cyclists are allowed to use one-way streets in both directions) lowers accident risk for cyclists. This objective finding contradicts popular believe that contra-flow cycling is more dangerous.
