What is it about?

Spheres, when they become very small, ie nanospheres, start to exhibit wonderful new properties. When we coat a metal nanosphere with a thin shell of a dielectric matetial, we can fine-tune their optical properties. Our simulation studies show how we can make very sensitive refractive index sensors if we use quadrapolar plasmonic peak for this purpose.

Why is it important?

These have high potenrial to be used as biosensors for identifying entities that grow in aquesous medium. This is due to the highly localised nature, senitivity and linear response around 1.33 which is refractive of water

Perspectives

As Feynman had observed decades ago, we are living in an era where Science enables us to manipulate what happens at molecular levels. How we make use of this ability is upto us and will decide the furure of mankind.
