What is it about?
Highlights • Finite Element methodology tailored for the simulation of isolated biomembranes and capillary interfaces in a surrounding Newtonian fluid. • A fully implicit time integration scheme allows to overcome the stability issues related to the explicit discretization of the highly non-linear bending force (Canham–Helfrich–Evans model). • Inexact Newton strategies are developed to solve the capillary and vesicle problems and feature a second-order convergence behaviour. • Significantly larger time step sizes with respect to the explicit method are allowed.
