What is it about?

We study experimentally the unsteady and mean flow of three in-line turbulent jets impinging on a sinusoidally corrugated plate. Results show that impingement distance and corrugation phase strongly influence oscillatory motion that governs entrainmetn and jet-crossflow interaction.

Why is it important?

Our results show that compared with flat-target configurations, suface corrugation reorganizes the jets'-crossflow interaction, enhancing vortex-induced mixing and turbulence generation.

Perspectives

These hydrodynamic effects provide the physical basis for the improved convective performance reported in prior heat-transfer studies.
