What is it about?
Floral fragrance is one of the most important characters in lilies for economic and ecological reasons. Lilies , commercially important floricultural crops, mainly emit terpenoids. However, no clear regulation mechanism has been identified in terpenoid biosynthesis. This paper identifies transcription factors that regulate the terpene synthesis in lily , and disclose the related underlying transcriptional regulation mechanism.

Why is it important?
We isolate three novel R2R3-MYB transcription factors , LiMYB1, LiMYB305, and LiMYB330 , in lilies , which have the direct roles as activator in the terpenoid biosynthesis. Moreover, we vertified LiMYBs synergistic roles in the regulation of floral terpene biosynthesis. This knowledge will be useful for lily breeding, which produces cultivars with modified fragrance.
