What is it about?

The work concerns the chemical and thermal modification of granular activated carbon in order to change its acid-base characteristics (surface oxygen group concentration) and to assess the effect of these modifications on the adsorption capacity of aromatic organic compounds with different properties. Detailed analyses of porous, acid-base, chemical, and thermal stability properties of the carbon were carried out using techniques such as nitrogen sorption, potentiometric titration, X-ray spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. To assess the effectiveness of the adsorbents in removing selected organic compounds, experimental measurements and analysis of kinetic and equilibrium data were performed.
