What is it about?
University libraries are increasingly using social media to reach out to the student body but little is known about how students view or interact with library social media. This paper explores students' awareness of their university library's social media activities and consider how likely they are to engage with the library's social media posts.

Why is it important?
Although university libraries are putting quite a lot of time, effort and resources into their social media activities, we know little about university students' perceptions or reactions to the library's posts. Are the library's efforts in vain? The paper analyses the factors that promote and/or hinder students' social media engagement with the university library.
