What is it about?

Comparison in efficiency of methods used to extract oil from coconut residue, which is normally left unused after coconut milk was pressed out of it for cooking purposes.

Why is it important?

The extraction methods being studied are soxhlet, ultrasonic-assisted and microwave-assisted. Then, the oil yield, fatty acid composition, and free fatty acid (FFA) concentration of copra residue oil (CRO) obtained from different extraction methods and conditions were compared. Those values are important as indications to produce high quality coconut oil.

Perspectives

In brief, different extraction methods and conditions influenced the coconut residue oil yield and free fatty acids concentration but showed no significant differences in terms of fatty acid composition.
