What is it about?

Annealing & solvation effects in phosphonium haloaluminate ionic liquids (ILs) for mirror aluminum electroplating. Structurization of Al2Cl7−-dominated [P6,6,6,14] ILs by annealing, resulting in a gradual increase in viscosity, density, and Tg.

Why is it important?

Annealing or heat treatment of the ILs gives hysteresis in viscosities but no thermal hysteresis was observed for conductivity and electrochemical behaviors, suggesting a decoupled feature. Stiff polar/nonpolar nanodomains decouple conductivity and viscosity, giving the mirror Al electroplating regardless of annealing or dilution conditions.

Perspectives

Connection between microscopic and macroscopic behaviors is hypothesized by nano-phase separation, which could be proved by additional computational simulations.
